This template reads its data from the item sitelinked to the page (see Help:Contributing/semanticDynamicContent). Empty statements render empty rows — not an error. Birth/death rows stay empty while the person is alive. The optional portrait parameter (a full File:… link) is set by the page skeleton when Special:AddPerson uploaded or reused a portrait; without it the row stays empty.
