This page is for the translation administrator role: you mark wiki pages for translation and manage their units. The Help:Contributing/languages page explains the two mechanisms and the target languages.

Marking a new page

  1. Add <languages/> at the top of the page.
  2. Wrap each unit in <translate> — one sentence or short paragraph per unit.
  3. Open Special:PageTranslation and mark the page.

Updating a marked page

Editing a marked page changes its units. After the edit, mark the page again at Special:PageTranslation. Changed units are flagged as outdated until translators retranslate them.

Unit hygiene

  • Keep units self-contained: one sentence or short paragraph each.
  • Do not split markup or code across units.
  • Wrap anything that must not be translated — entity IDs, links, code — in tvar.
  • Keep existing unit markers unchanged when editing; the extension assigns numbers when you mark.
