Summary
The Large Underground Xenon (LUX) experiment, a liquid-xenon time projection chamber installed about 4,850 ft underground at the Sanford Underground Research Facility inside a 70,000-gallon water tank shield. It searched for the faint recoil of WIMP dark matter striking a xenon nucleus; its successor, LUX-ZEPLIN, continues the search.
